The Winterfest 5k Run & Walk is quickly becoming one of the area's most popular running events. This year, the run is being held on Saturday, November 17th. Registration starts at 7 am at the old City Hall Train Station in Anderson. The race starts at 8 am for everyone – walkers and runners. Entry fees are a "recession-busting" $15 for entries received before the day of the race, $20 if you pay the day of the race.
This year, the Winterfest 5k Run & Walk is in its 30th year. The Winterfest 5k Run & Walk is more than just a race. Money raised from the event goes to help local charities, who in turn help local people during the Christmas season. It's a chance for you to burn off a few calories before Thanksgiving and help others at the same time.
Runners and walkers from Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and other states come to Anderson to compete on the USATF certified 5k course. It winds through the historic streets of Anderson before taking a short jog outside of town, then back to the Start/Finish line.
For 2012, the first 100 entrants get a free t-shirt and goodie bag. Overall winners and age category winners get a customized Winterfest Christmas ornament instead of a medal. So hang your winnings on your Christmas tree, not around your neck! Also returning for 2012 is the much coveted "Silver Shoe" award, given to the participant who signs up and brings the most participants to the Run/Walk.
